Andy Lau's new movie 'Future X-Cops' releases trailerhttp://www.whatsonxiamen.comHong Kong director Wong Jing's upcoming sci-fi action film "Future X-Cops" has released a trailer, offering an early taste of high-tech futurism. In the film, Andy Lau plays a superhero in the year 2080. He travels back in time to 2020 to protect a child who is pursued by assassins hired by oil companies as the child would in 2080 find how to replace oil with solar energy. Lau's character works under the disguise as a policeman and fights the villains with Transformer-like outfits. Ignoring those who have slammed the film as just another Hollywood mimic, director Wong Jing told reporters at a promotion on Thursday that the film's focus is its story, not its special effects. "Future X-Cops" also stars Barbie Hsu, Fan Bingbing and Xu Jiao. Cinema release is set for March 30. mms://media.chinabroadcast.cn/en/webext ... txcops.wmv

Trailer, Posters and Synopsis for Future X-Cops Future X-Cops is the new film directed by Wong Jing and starring Andy Lau. For those fans of Hong Kong cinema you will probably already be familiar with Andy Lau and Wong Jing but for those that are not I can recommend God of Gamblers (Wong Jing) and Infernal Affairs (starring Andy Lau and Tony Leung) as good places to start if you are interested. Wong Jing is a prolific director and one whose films are often ridiculous and slightly demented but also very enjoyable (the God of Gambler films were some of my favourite films as a teenager) and this year sees the release of his new science fiction film, Future X-Cops. Reportedly costing $20 million the film looks pretty insane, with ludicrous special effects and very cheesy action sequences. This will certainly not be a cinematic masterpiece but I’m a sucker for this kind of light hearted cheesy genre cinema and hopefully you are to. I know this trailer is bad, I know the film looks terrible but I still can’t wait to see it, it just looks so fun. Check out the synopsis, posters and trailer (courtesy of Twitch) and see what you think. A cop goes back in time to the present to protect a scientist who holds the key to mankind’s future. In the future, scientist DR MASTERSON averts an energy crisis that threatens the existence of mankind by developing a solar substitute. In doing so he unleashes the wrath of a ruthless oil cartel who dispatch a team of half human, half machine hit men to assassinate him. Policeman ANDY (Andy Lau) is assigned to protect Dr. Masterson and repels the assassination attempt, but his wife MILLIE (BingBing Fan) and cyborg captain KALON’s (Louis Fan) younger brother are killed during the battle. Andy and Kalon both vow revenge. Still determined to regain control of the world’s energy, the cartel send Kalon and his cyborgs back in time to the present to kill Dr. Masterson as a teenager. Now with the fate of the future in his hands, Andy must follow the assassins back in time to protect the future savior of planet earth. But the only way he stands a chance against the super powered cyborgs is to relinquish his humanity and become one of them.

Very unflattering review, with which I fully concur http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/review ... x-cops.php(...) Future X-Cops – directed by Jing Wong, Hong Kong; upcoming screenings 7/21 9pm, 7/29 9pm Synopsis: It’s the future! And mankind no longer has energy concerns thanks to a brilliant scientist who developed a genius method of harnessing the sun’s rays to provide power to the world. That doesn’t sit well with BP and other energy giants though, so they decide to send a gang of killer cyborgs back in time to 2010 to kill the scientist before he finishes his discovery. The future of mankind and cheap energy bills rests in the hands of a policeman named Andy played by superstar Andy Lau. But to fight cybernetic assassins Andy may need to become one of them. Or something. Check out our review after the jump… Review: This flick is a visual mess. The story is fairly basic as described above, and it adds in a family friendly angle with the inclusion of Andy’s daughter coming along for the time travel adventure. It’s basically Timecop meets Spy Kids, but the cool time-travel action of the former is drowned out by the nausea-inducing CGI visuals. The movie feels like something that was intended as a pure popcorn entertainment, and while there’s nothing at all wrong with that aim the filmmakers seem to have forgotten to include the entertainment. Everything from the bad “futuristic” backdrops to the constant overuse of cheap-looking CGI action and weaponry just offends the eyes as it splashes garishly and constantly across the screen. The evil cyborgs lack the slightest bit of personality and are only recognizable by their individual CGI enhancements. That’s not saying their “powers” are memorable or interesting either as the myriad collection of wings, dragon arms, and tails are more cartoonish than cool. One of the few enjoyable parts of the movie is the nurse offering to use her hands or tongue to make a patient happy. I’m taking it totally out of context and I’m an acknowledged fan of Asian nurse cosplay, but still… Normally I’d talk both about what works in the movie as well as what doesn’t, but absolutely nothing works here. I generally like Lau, but the movie doesn’t really give him the opportunity to emote with any degree of dramatic power or sincerity. Instead he chooses to play it broad for the kiddies, pocket the fat paycheck, and move on to something much better. The audience should follow suit and jump straight to step three… move on to something better. (...)

holy mother of god, what the heck did i just watch? i mean i knew it was gonna be bad, but this...THIS IS ATROCIOUS. there is not one good thing out of this. everything is terrible from beginning to end. comical acting, 90s special effects, worse than home-made production values, blatant rip-off soundtrack from various movies, horrible dialogs, and not even entertaining at the very least. i'd give this a -1 out of 10. this is a career suicide for everyone involved. it was worse than RoboGeisha, at least that had LOL moments and they meant to do it.
